Johnny Ace, or as we now know him Mr. John Laurinaitis, is a man who the WWE brought in to rule over the WWE universe. Earlier in his T.V. tenure, he was the sneaky manipulative “McMahon lackey”. He went from being a lackey to a proud executive of talent relations, to interim General Manager and now the permanent Raw and Smackdown GM. Big Johnny is an ongoing success for WWE as a primary heel. He started with baby steps but has now become the most hated individual in WWE. He is what the doctor ordered… The Ultimate heel GM from hell. He is the reason CM Punk is still entertaining, the reason why Cena is being cheered and the reason why Big Show is a heel sell-out. Big Johnny is the future whether you like him or not.
The WWE have always used heels to create intrigue for matches, storylines, make memorable feuds and create a more lovable Face. In the Attitude Era it was Mr. McMahon that made many stars as the Boss from Hell. This move made the greatest most exciting Era in wrestling history and made Stone Cold a legend. The WWE also had the McMahon/Helmsley Era where The Rock, Mankind, Chris Jericho and The Game were born into mainstream stardom and cult status. In the Bischoff Era we witnessed the arrival of John Cena and Batista. In this new Era we have seen CM Punk rise to stardom, however that is it. We are surrounded by so many heels that we are lacking in powerful, captivating Faces. CM Punk is only one man, it is hard to believe I know. If you look at the “big” Faces in WWE at the moment you see Orton who is suspended, Rey who is suspended, Sheamus who is riding the HHH Express and that is it. We lost HBK and Edge not so long ago and no one has stepped up. We need a Face on par with CM Punk, enter John Laurinaitis.
John Laurinaitis is the most underrated wrestler in the history of wrestling. He was a good wrestler though undermined by his brother. Johnny has a wrestling mind and that is what we need. Here are ways we can use this man in a way that benefits everyone:
*As the heel GM it is his job to work the Faces into obscurity whilst using the heels as his accessories. WWE must have faith in Big Johnny and their stars for any story or push created by them. Demeaning a mid card Face can give a star a chance to shine as he is fighting authority. It doesn’t have to be one star, but a tag team or even a stable.
*Another option is for Johnny to rub a heel the wrong way for a massive Face turn. I am looking at The Miz or Drew McIntyre for this. It is easy to turn Miz as he is being snubbed by Big Johnny in recent weeks and he needs a new change to feel fresh again. Another guy who needs a big change is Jack Swagger, a talented wrestler that wears the colours of his country. I would love to see a heel turn Face that has never been one.
*REBUILD THE TAG DIVISION!! At this present time this area in WWE sucks. Get Kofi and Truth to infuriate Big Johnny and send a bunch of heel tag teams to beat them. You are building an interesting division and making the champs look strong. We have teams like Reks/Hawkins, Titus/Young, The Usos, Gabriel/Kidd, Epico/Primo and “WWE Mexican America” that would build an effective division. Some guys like A-Ry and Slater who are doing nothing could pair up and make a name in a new division. Hopefully Alex Shelley gets signed soon and then all guns will be blazing (pun intended).
*Most importantly, build Mr. Laurinaitis. Get him to feud with McMahon and Triple H, get him to screw CM Punk finally, cost Sheamus the belt, make a stable called People Power with Otunga, Big Show, Tensai and other big heels, make him seem invincible. The only wasy people will retain to watching wrestling is with interesting shock value, fresher storylines and conflict. In the future when Big Johnny is finally defeated, it will seem such a milestone that the WWE Universe is ours again and our heroes saved us.
The WWE with Big Johnny have the potential to change viewers minds about the current product. I have highlighted some ideas that may stimulate the WWE and breathe some life into this brand. big Johnny is the bad guy who will lead this revolution and because of this he will become the star no one ever thought he would be. This is all thanks to “People Power”.
