Chris Jericho – Worst return in the world

Chris Jericho, the most underrated wrestler ever. I am a Jericholic. Jericho has had a stellar career and rightfully so. There are not many things Jericho has not accomplished and he reminds us frequently. His career has had so many highlights. Jericho in the WCW Cruiserweights? Jericho and his 1004 holds? Jericho and his “undefeated” Goldberg streak? His debut in WWF? Y2J winning the WWF title before being screwed by Triple H on Raw? The brash remarks about Stephanie? The Undisputed Champ? The Wrestlemania match against HBK? Of course you remember this, it is the stuff of a legend. There is something bothering me about this return. I believe WWE got it all wrong…

It all started with the promos with the playground and the kids, it was weird. When the promos were done and the comeback was confirmed the crowd erupted. I was so happy Jericho had returned as the product needed an icon. Jericho was all smiles and the fans were cheering. It was what the WWE needed. however something happened… WWE failed to capitalize on this. I am going to go through the errors made by WWE.

Error 1. Sheamus winning the Royal Rumble – Jericho’s momentum off of his return took a major blow here. Jericho was the favourite to win, the fans wanted him to win, the IWC had him as the winner and then he lost. Jericho needed the win way more than Sheamus did. Sheamus is Triple H’s guy and was always going to get pushed anyway. Identical to Triple H, Sheamus will tread over crowd favourites and Y2J to get ahead. Unfortunately for them this is the year 2012 and people aren’t as forgiving as before in the 90′s. An example is the Daniel Bryan travesty, now he is more loved than Sheamus and Sheamus may never get over 100% due to that. I believe the first mistake came at the Rumble.

Error 2. The forced Heel turn – Jericho was THE fan favourite. Fresh off Kane’s return, Jericho was the man that the WWE Universe was talking about. CM Punk who was and still is the champion has been the greatest Face in many years. In one night Punk had an equal… So why did WWE force it so much? They pushed Jericho as a heel in front of Miz, Ziggler, Rhodes, Barrett and Bryan. Jericho should of been used to establish these men as major heels instead as the major Face. At this time what major heels do we have? Del Rio, Bryan, Kane…. that is it really. What should of happened is Jericho and Punk wrestled at Wrestlemania then teamed up out of respect. The fans don’t want to boo him, he is a legend, that is why Jerry “King” Lawler is a Face commentator, you can’t boo someone you respect wholeheartedly.

Error 3. The PPV loser – Ok, he lost at the Rumble, but then failed at the Elimination Chamber as well. Then he was stopped by Punk at Wrestlemania in a classic, he was beaten again at Extreme Rules, he got thwarted at Fatal 4 Way and will lose at whatever the next PPV is for him. Talk about losing credibility…

Error 4. the Brazil incident –  The fallout of this incident is ridiculous. He apologized as he was not aware of what he had done and showed class by doing so. Yet when it surfaced on the ‘Net he was suspended. I was shocked and frustrated. No one at WWE has the balls to admit that this is not an individual’s mistake. WWE cannot tell a heel to be as bad as he can be then punish them for doing their job. Jericho learnt the hard way, he apologized more than once and he doesn’t hate Brazil at all. Jericho was just an example of WWE’s stupid authority. WWE being so Pro-American and proclaiming their support of the First Amendment as such is so hypocritical. They are a dictatorship filled with politicians and bias. Jericho will take the fall here and WWE will now kill his legacy as a result. At WWE headquarters there are too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. Company error.

Jericho’s return has been error riddled by WWE, downplayed and quite simply an epic failure. Fans like myself love Jericho no matter what he does because he has done so much for the business. At the end of the day Chris Jericho does not fit into the WWE PG Era. WWE has a picture of what it wants and it has John Cena, Sheamus, maybe still Randy Orton, old legends like Triple H and The Rock, but there is no room for Chris Jericho in today’s farcical wrestling. CM Punk said a line once in his infamous promo that changed the world, “I’ll go be the best in the world somewhere else”. Jericho should take that advice and go, and for once “save” himself.
